It is our understanding that, while zoned for light industrial, a variance is needed for the owner to build to the plan she has submitted. This would have to take place at the township level and we have heard directly from the County Freeholders that they would not approve it without Township approval. We have spoken with the Solid Waste Advisory Committee on this action and our opposition to it. More to come on this, but thank you for your participation and efforts.
If the land is zoned for such use, this will be an uphill fight. If zoned to permit such use, you better hire a good attorney and even then the chances of stopping this is very slim. Courts do not look favorably on efforts to advocate for zoning changes in the middle of an application on land that is zoned for the use being proposed. However, if this land is not zoned as such and a variance is required, things could be looking up for those looking to have a say in what will ultimately be built on this property. The Land Use board will not and should not do anything that will risk a lawsuit against the town, whose cost will ultimately be borne by the taxpayers. Tread carefully on this.
There is a meeting tonight (11/4 at 7:30pm) of the Warren County Solid Waste Advisory Council. This committee will hear from the Pio Costa land owners and advise the Freeholders on whether or not to approve the site plan to build the dump on Blau Road. Please see the 'Latest News' or the 'Meetings' tabs above to find the link to the WebEx invite.
I’ve lived in Mansfield Township for 40 years. This is a beautiful area. We all thought it was a well kept secret! We do not need this dump in our area to lower our home values and destroy our beautiful area. Stop the Dump! Go somewhere else!
